On June 8, 2019, Emily Steinwehe of Wisconsin Food Forests planted our Food Forest Basic Package at Sol Criations Farm Sanctuary, Endeavor, Wisconsin. Sol Criations offers sanctuary to farm animals and wildlife in a biodynamic space and peaceable kingdom.
Brenda and Jon Vetter, guardians of the animals, are both World Peace Diet Facilitators. Teaching people about the realities of modern agriculture, the Vetters reach out to promote a vegan alternative. They offer vegan mentorships and share their philosophy and way of living through caring, advocating, educating, and mentoring for the animals. These actions make connections, empower hearts, and open minds to make conscious, compassionate choices for the animals, the Earth, and ourselves.
Sol Criations hired Wisconsin Food Forests to design and plant a basic food forest on their property so that in a short time, the 14 trees and shrubs that were planted will provide food, shade, and a gathering space for their many visitors and residents. The residents include alpacas, pigs, donkeys, cats, dogs, goats, sheep, and feathered friends of all kinds.
Many hands make light work, and seven women and three children planted, mulched, fenced, and watered 14 trees and shrubs in less than two hours. Emily, ever the naturalist and teacher, demonstrated the techniques for planting and mulching trees and shrubs. She places a wire fence around each plant to protect it from rabbits and voles and provides clients with her care sheets for maintaining the planting.
Brenda said about the project for the day, “The first part of the day, Emily from Wisconsin Food Forests arrived with all the plants and supplies and put us to work, digging, planting, and watering. It was hot but we had a great time and are excited to watch all the plants and trees grow!”
The highlight of Emily’s day was a chance to pet a turkey and several pigs.
We are grateful and satisfied to complete our first food forest installation.
